Today was bright and sunny; and why we have chosen this life. Randal and I walked to the beach for lunch. Here are some photos. We are on the west coast of Luzon Island, the northern island of the Philippines. We are northwest of Manila in the area that was once the Subic Bay Naval Base but is now the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. You see the abbreviation SBMA everywhere. Subic Bay Yacht Club is our actual location. We are on what was the northwestern perimiter of the base near Olongapo City. You walk through one of the old base gates and they check ID cards. Only people with "business" here can come. It is a duty free area and they don’t want folks buying here and selling there. I know very little, but will learn more. I don’t even know much about the WW 2 history of the Philippines except that my Uncle Philly served here and circumvented the army censors by signing his letters home Philip so his family would know where he was. He never called himself Philip. I hope to learn lots about the history, present politics and food! Of course the food.
It was about a 15 minute walk to the closest beach. Randal had spent some time here after helping move hull # 1 from Hong Kong to the Philippines in March of "05" He knew a fun restaurant on the beach so we walked there. The Scuba Shack. The Philippines has great diving and maybe we will learn.
Anyway, here are some photos to begin to give you the flavor.
ps The boat seems empty without our passage crew. Come back guys!
